Math Talks: Engaging Students in Daily Discourse K-6

During this workshop, participants will have the opportunity to look at articles, models and resources that depict what a math talk can look like in the classroom along with practical ideas ready to use right away. Participants will build a foundation of knowledge for math talks through understanding various formats, explore resources designed to help implement math talks, and utilize math talks to improve fluency and number sense for purposeful problem solving. Participants will understand the connection between math talks and district initiatives, the eight mathematical practices, and teacher evaluation. Participants will also create a math talk lesson and receive feedback as well as provide feedback to colleagues in the workshop.
